TKW Newsletter : Nearing the end of 2023

Tēnā koe e hoa 👋

How are you crossing the finish line for 2023?

We are starting to round off things for 2023 as we inch further into December, and our intention here at Te Kāinga Wāhine right now is skip across the finish line. What does that look like for us?

  • Realistic timeframes - we’re not in the game of loading up our plates to get lots done before the self-imposed Christmas deadline. If something would take us three weeks to complete at any other time of the year, three weeks at this time of the year it is too;

  • No new things - now’s not the time to be introducing something new to our workload. Let’s give it the attention and time it deserves and plan it out properly;

  • Being present - whether that’s at home hanging Christmas decorations, or in conversations over cups of tea with clients. Allowing ourselves the time and space to be present in each moment.

🙋🏽‍♀️ Digital Storytelling Wānanga in Waikato

Next week we are co-hosting a 2-day wānanga in Waikato, on digital storytelling with Nimbus Media as part of He Tauawhi ki te Koniahi. We have 2 spaces that have become available that we are looking to fill.

If you’re keen to attend a 2-day wānanga with us, where you’ll learn to capture and share your stories authentically, in engaging digital ways, drop us an email at [email protected] asap. Details are:

Tues 12 / Weds 13 December
9.30am - 4pm both days
Whatawhata, Waikato

These spaces have been funded, there is no cost to attend, we just ask you to commit to the full two days. We’d love to have you join us!

📰 Spotlight : Te Arawhata launches

We are uber proud of our hoa Lizzie Dunn, founder of Little Mouse Co., for the launch of Te Arawhata - a brand new website and newsletter on a mission to share on all things Māori arts, media, and events, to help people to enjoy, learn from, & connect with Māori culture.

Here’s two ways you can engage with Te Arawhata:

  1. Take a read of their collection of things to read: www.tearawhataaotearoa.com

  2. Sign up to receive their newsletter on the regular: www.tearawhataaotearoa.com/subscribe

  3. Share Te Arawhata with a friend or whānau member!

👩🏽‍🍼 BO & KO Baby

BO & KO Baby is a boutique nursery and play accessories collection reflecting the cultures and designs of Aotearoa Māori and the Pacific, and we loooooove them!

Founded by long-standing friends and Māmā Amy and Dayna, the pair were inspired to create the label after having their own pēpi (babies) to normalise and immerse their children in their heritages from birth. Amy and Dayna wanted to celebrate their children’s diverse cultures to ensure that they felt connected to their cultures.

We think BO & KO Baby products are so gorgeous, and had these ataahua blankets in our glamping tents at our recent Te Kāinga Wāhine wānanga.

🦖 Spotlight : Hone and his mokonui

Nikki Kennedy, founder of Taputapu Ltd has recently launched this beautiful pukapuka for tamariki. Join Hone and his Mokonui friends as they embark on a thrilling adventure to discover a mystical, precious pounamu stone.

We love the creativity and imagine that has gone into this pukapuka for tamariki to enjoy bilingually.

Why not jump over and grab a copy for the little mokonui lover in your whānau!
