Spotlight: Sustainable fashion and individuality with Momo Aotearoa

Ko Johana Te Momo tēnei founder of Momo Aotearoa (formerly known as Momo Girl).

Momo Aotearoa is a sustainable fashion brand that celebrates individuality by infusing Māori culture with contemporary design, empowering individuals to confidently express their authentic selves.

Originally born in Tāmaki and raised in Whangarei, Johana's early dreams revolved around infusing her cherished Māori culture with the electric pulse of late '90s fashion, drawing inspiration from global icons like Versace.

Johana's passion runs deeper than just fashion; it's about confidently expressing oneself. After taking a detour, it was her healing waka and the love for her tamariki that realigned her to her true calling.

Her superpowers? Communication & Design, underlined by the strength and resilience of being Māori.

As she reconnects with her roots and her dreams, Johana fuses her love for design with the ethos of individuality, birthing Momo Aotearoa.

Whilst working through our six month business development programme at Te Kāinga Wāhine, we have seen Johana step into the confident, trailblazer we know her to be. Johana was a part of NZ Fashion Week 23: Kahuria in the Pacific Fusion Show, and has been stretching herself to new heights each month.

We interviewed Johana on Te Kāinga Wāhine - The Podcast, you can listen to her story here.
